Named by the Esso Exploration and Production Panama (1970, 1971a, 1971b); Bandy and Casey (1973). Type Locality is in San Blas Complex. The name is not mentioned in Instituto Geografico Nacional (IGN) "Tommy Guardia" (1996) however it is still used by Barat et al. (2014).
